The Sounds of Legacy program engages seniors through familiar songs, promoting social interactions and enhancing their overall quality of life.
We offer group music therapy sessions in older adult communities throughout San Diego, as well as individual sessions in-home and at our Music Wellness Center in Sorrento Valley.
By fostering physical well-being, positive attitudes, and enrichment for the mind, body, and spirit, our program tailors activities to each individual’s abilities. Participants engage in drum circles, singing, and songwriting — often inspired by nostalgic tunes that spark meaningful memories.
Music therapists and volunteers in a recreational music session developed to stimulate and engage older adults with dementia.

““Playing this drum makes me want to get up and do everything. I feel the vibrations coming out of the drums and into my fingers as well as my heart. Thank you!”
MUSIC THERAPY PARTICIPANT
Studies confirm that music therapy has significant benefits for older adults with dementia. It can reduce depression, anxiety, and agitation, while also enhancing mood, alertness, orientation, cognition, memory recall, communication, and meaningful socialization. Additionally, it has been shown to improve sleep and appetite while reducing caregiver stress.
