Mindful Music
Recreational Music to Empower Seniors
The Resounding Joy Mindful Music program brings the familiarity of favorite songs to seniors enrolled in adult day care programs, assisted living facilities, and memory-care facilities throughout the greater San Diego area. The first and longest-running Resounding Joy outreach program, Mindful Music trains community volunteers who, under the guidance and supervision of board-certified music therapists, deliver Mindful Music services directly to more than 250 San Diego seniors annually. Joy Giver-delivered recreational music is free of charge, but availability relies entirely upon the success of Resounding Joy community fundraising and philanthropic grants.
Music therapists & Joy Giver volunteers using songs & musical instruments in an actual recreational music session developed to stimulate & engage older adults with dementia.

Mindful Music provides seniors with invaluable social experiences as well as improved quality of life by fostering physical well-being, healthy attitudes, and enrichment for mind, body, and spirit. Mindful Music tailors activities to the ability of each individual, helping all to participate in and benefit from drum circles, singing, and song-making, typically drawing from songs from the 1930s through the 1960s. Program volunteers belong to one of two classifications. Adult volunteers train to be Joy Givers. Youth volunteers, between the ages of 6 and 18, train to be Junior Joy Givers. Volunteers need no prior musical training.
