2013 Resounding Joy Healing Notes Kicks Off Music With Heart

On May 1st, 2013, Resounding Joy’s Healing Notes program extended their music therapy cardiology program at Rady Children’s Hospital to Resounding Joy’s Recreational Music Center and Clinic. Resounding Joy, in partnership with The Ariana Fund, has been providing music therapy services at Rady Children’s Hospital for the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units since 2011. In 2012, they started taking follow-up home referrals for patients from Rady’s.
Music With Heart provides sociobehavioral musical support for children who have cardiology diagnoses, and promotes the bonding of children who have endured multiple hospitalizations, long-term hospital stays, cardiac surgery, and medical procedures related to a cardiology diagnosis. Music With Heart’s music therapy interventions include sensorimotor stimulation for physical endurance through Therapeutic Instrumental Music Performance (TIMP), processing of medical trauma through songwriting, speech and language development and reinforcement for expression through group Therapeutic Singing (TS), Musical Executive Function Training (MEFT) through musical activities, and offers an overall enjoyment and enhanced quality of life.
The Music With Heart program will meet twice monthly on the first and third Wednesdays of the month and is open to children with cardiology diagnosis and their families. Please contact Resounding Joy for more information (http://resoundingjoyinc.org).
